Published by Shanghai Educational Publishing House, Qinyu Shanchuan — Yu-Peng Chen’s Game Music Piano Collection Vol. 1, composed by Yu-Peng Chen and arranged by Li Jia, Associate Professor at the Shanghai Conservatory of Music, is now officially on sale. A book launch and meet-the-author event was held last Saturday at the East Branch of Shanghai Library.

The collection features piano solo arrangements of beloved scores Yu-Peng Chen composed for two of China’s most popular games, Moonlight Blade and Sword and Fairy 7, including fan favorites such as 千人千面 (A Thousand Faces), 金风玉露 (Golden Wind, Jade Dew), 爱意 (Love) and 竹韵·相守 (Bamboo Rhymes · Companionship).

Chen hopes to let game music step beyond the screen and reach a wider audience through the piano — one of the most accessible and intimate of instruments.

Arranger Li Jia shared insights on distilling a grand symphonic language into piano solos: the core challenge lies in preserving the spirit of the original works while giving full play to the piano’s own expressive power.

As an innovative transformation of game music into the art of the piano solo, the publication of Qinyu Shanchuan once again affirms the artistic value of great game music: melodies that not only convey emotion within interactive experiences, but possess the inner strength to stand alone as classics beyond the game itself.

Qinyu Shanchuan Vol. 1 is now available through the official channels of Shanghai Educational Publishing House and Zhejiang Xinhua Bookstore’s online store.
