BIOGRAPHY
Yu-Peng Chen is a composer and music producer signed to Deutsche Grammophon. He joined the storied Yellow Label in August 2025, an arrival heralded by the advance single “Summer Fantasy”, adapted from his score for the game Justice Online (逆水寒), and followed that October by “The Inn Beneath the Starry Sky” and a limited-edition CD and vinyl release of Fantasyland — the 2024 solo album that earned him acclaim from listeners worldwide.
Chen's writing is rooted in the Western orchestral tradition and colored by Chinese traditional and world folk music. A graduate of the Shanghai Conservatory of Music, where he studied music design and production in the Music Engineering Department under Professor An Dong, he made his name in games and film: Genshin Impact, Sword and Fairy 7, Moonlight Blade, and the Justice Online series, alongside The Captain, The Founding of an Army, the From Vegas to Macau series, and The Last Tycoon.
His honors include the World Soundtrack Award for Most Original Composition by a Young International Composer, second place at the 2021 PlayStation Game Music Awards for Genshin Impact, and a nomination at the 2013 Hong Kong Film Awards for The Last Tycoon.
Recent years have been prolific. Alongside a run of Justice Online soundtrack albums stretching into 2026, he released the Liangzhou volume of the Where Winds Meet (燕云十六声) soundtrack (2025), the character single “NewMe” for Strinova (2026), and Qinyu Shanchuan (琴语山川), his works reimagined for solo piano (2025). Fantasyland marked its first anniversary in July 2025 with the single “Ocean Embraces All Flowing Rivers” — a fitting title for a composer whose music keeps drawing new currents into one sea.
